We have experts all around us who are doing the work that we are aiming to prepare students for, yet I find that we are underutilizing this resource.
In my experience, the community is eager to help but is not intentionally invited into the classrooms to support learning. Schools often call on them for financial support, but fail to realize the social, and knowledge capital of our community.
How much more can we do for students when we connect them with strong leaders in our community?
Teachers are experts in their field and should be treated as such. As leaders it is essential to equip and empower teachers to become masters of their content and pedagogy, then support them in implementing strong viable curriculum development.
By encouraging teachers to think differently about teaching and equipping them with effective training on how to design authentic learning experiences that connect students to community leaders has the power to enrich learning.
"The best teachers are those who show you where to look, but don't tell you what to see" -Alexandra K. Trenfor

As teachers shift to coaching, modeling, and connecting students to experts, they are able explore the world around them, solve problems and take control of their learning.
Empowering students to learn and succeed is the greatest accomplishment of a teacher.
